About Us

Who We Are:

Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego is a non-profit, no-kill animal welfare group that was formed as a network of foster homes in response to the overwhelming number of unwanted and abandoned Chihuahuas in the San Diego area. Today we help to place all types of Chihuahuas into caring homes.

Our Mission:

Our mission is to rescue small, abandoned, abused, and handicapped Chihuahua’s and provide quality foster care and medical attention for those animals in need. Although all of the Chihuahuas we rescue are special, some have special needs that require a little extra TLC and expense. We try to provide loving homes and special care for these animals as most people would consider them un-adoptable. They can sometimes become the favorites……….

What We Do:

Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego is truly a unique animal welfare organization. CRSD provides food, shelter, medical care, spay or neuter, as well as adoption services for abandoned, neglected, abused, and injured pets. We also try to provide education for new adopters and they can always call with questions. CRSD takes in and cares for all types of small domesticated canines including “problem” breeds, sick and older animals that may need serious medical attention that some other organizations would reject because they consider them “unadoptable” or “unsaveable”. CRSD is comprised of a network of volunteers and foster homes, which makes the organization extremely cost-efficient. Being 100% volunteer-operated allows all funds to go directly to helping animals.

"Forever Families":

Animals are placed in foster homes until they can be placed with loving”forever families” that are committed to caring for them for life. While in foster care, CRSD provides medical care for the animal so that it is healthy and spayed/neutered by the time of adoption. Because so much care is put into the rescue of these animals, CRSD’s goal is to help find lifetime homes for these animals and to guarantee that they aren’t neglected or abandoned again. This is achieved through pre-adoption screenings and post adoption follow-up calls to ensure that the right pet is placed in the right home. CRSD stands by all of its animals and should it be necessary, it takes back any animals it has adopted out at any time.

Foster

Join Our Foster Network!

Foster homes are always needed to give pets hope for a better future. If you would like to become a foster home, you will be asked to fill out our application and care for an animal as your own. We ask that you commit to fostering the animal until the pet has been adopted to prevent it from being passed around. Helping an abandoned pet find a new, loving home via fostering can be a rich and rewarding experience.  Please contact us if you are interested or for more information.

Volunteer/Donate

Volunteers & Donations Needed

CRSD recognizes that not everyone can or is suited to caring for animals, but you can help in other ways. CRSD appreciates volunteers and donations. Donations, sponsorships, and adoption fees are used to pay for supplies, veterinary expenses, and medications. 100% of all donations go toward the animals. Volunteers are needed to help staff fund-raising events, provide animal transport, and to help with other administrative tasks.  Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.  Click on the donate button below to make a safe and secure online donation.
